Description
R L Seale's Rum 750 ML Hard to Find !RL Seale's legend has it that it was the Dutch who first brought sugar cane to the island paradise of Barbados. With its near perfect climate, Barbados soon became the sugar capital of the Caribbean. By the mid 1600s, distillers were prolific, and rum became the basis for the islands economy. In 1654, the General Court of Connecticut became so alarmed by the number of barrels of rum flooding into its ports that it banned the import of Whatsoever Barbados Liquors to protect the small distillers of New England and began confiscating the cargos of Rum Runners. One of the oldest remaining sugar plantations and rum distilleries on Barbados today is the handsomely groomed Foursquare Rum Distillery and Heritage Park situated in St. Philip, which offers over 8 acres of meticulously landscaped grounds respectful of over 250 years of heritage in producing sugar, rum and molasses. Foursquare, the name of the factory inspired by the square pond in the area, was a sugar plantation as far back as the 15th century and the site of rum production during the 17th century. This modern Barbados rum distillery differs from other Caribbean rum distilleries in that its interior is resonant of a boutique winery“ spacious and pristine. The rum blended at Foursquare Rum Distillery and Heritage Park is produced by R.L. Seale and Co., Ltd., a wholly family-owned and operated rum company, dating back to the 1820s. This family business is one of the last remaining Barbadian manufacturers of rum and one of the last independent manufacturers of the spirit in the Caribbean.
