With notes of oak, vanilla baking spices and citrus, WhistlePig Farmstock Crop 1 is quite a step in the visionary farm-to-bottle whiskey industry in the U.S.The Vermont based WhistlePig distillery opened in the beginning of October 2015. Founded by Raj Peter Bhakta, the distillery is also a significant landmark for Dave Pickerell, Makers Mark former Master Distiller. WhistlePig will move from sourcing their rye Whiskey elsewhere, to producing their own, through their state-of-the-art custom built tall copper still named The Mortimer. The still was designed by Pickerell, and constructed by Kentucky-based distillery equipment supplier, Vendome Copper.WhistlePig is one of the only American whiskey businesses to conduct every step of product onsite, from the harvesting of the rye fields, to the distilling, barreling aging and bottling. They operate on a sustainable closed loop system, growing its own rye (which needs very little fertilization, and the residual gets recycled for pig feed) on its own farm. They even source their own oak tree logs for their barrels from the premises.
