Highland Park Miniature Gift Three 3x50ML 12 Year, 18
Year, and Cask Strength Release No.2
Since 1798, we’ve crafted our award-winning,
lightly-peated whisky at the Highland Park Distillery in Kirkwall, Orkney. Age,
experience and respect for tradition may define our whisky, but it’s Orkney
that sets it apart. From our island home, we harness the influence of the salty
sea winds that shape Orkney’s coastlines, the intensely floral character of our
heather-rich peat, and the finest sherry-seasoned oak casks, to create Highland
Park’s uniquely complex balance of sweet and smoky flavours.
12 Year Matured predominantly in European and American
sherry seasoned oak casks, our iconic 12 Year Old single malt whisky is spicy
and well-rounded, packed with the flavours of sun-kissed Seville oranges and
rich fruitcake spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves; you’ll find molten
heather honey in this whisky’s waves of heathery peat smoke. Why not try it
with a handful of wasabi peas on the side or alongside a sizzling, pan-fried
rib-eye steak or with smoked salmon and sour cream.
18 Year Named by the American whisky expert, F Paul
Pacult, as ‘Best Spirit in the World’ (Spirit Journal), 18 Year Old Viking
Pride is our most highly-awarded single malt whisky, being honoured with both a
Gold and an Ultimate Recommendation (with a score of 96) in the 2021
International Spirits Challenge.
Matured in a high proportion of first-fill sherry
seasoned European and American oak casks, this superb 18 Year Old single malt
pays tribute to our five keystones of production and presents a
sophisticated medley of ripe cherries dusted with bittersweet cocoa, freshly
harvested honeycomb and candied orange peel. There’s a whisper of Orkney’s
salty seaspray in the aromatic peat smoke.
Cask Strength Release No. 2 is bottled straight from the
cask, without adding water to reduce alcohol content, to deliver an
extraordinary depth, complexity and balance of flavours.
Casks have a huge influence on the flavour, character and
natural colour of our whisky as it matures, so our Cask Strength series
presents our whisky in its purest form, giving you the freedom to enjoy our
whisky, your way. Discover the taste and strength that suits your palate by
experimenting with the amount of water you add to reach your optimum flavour.
The influence of sherry seasoned American oak casks
drives vanilla and toffee notes, and fresh and exotic fruit flavours; European
oak, on the other hand, influences deeper, richer flavours – think dried fruit
and woody spices, citrus notes and stewed orchard fruit. American oak casks
that previously held bourbon rather than sherry provide a gentle spicy
sweetness, typically revealed in notes of caramel, butterscotch, vanilla and
nutmeg.
For this second release in the Cask Strength series,
Gordon Motion, our Master Whisky Maker, selected mainly sherry seasoned
European and American oak casks, along with just a few ex-bourbon casks. You’ll
find aromas of summer rose, ripe pear and fresh coconut gathering on a wave of
aromatic peat smoke, followed by a wild harmony of sweet and spicy flavours -
poached pear and rich almond cake, a drizzle of cloudy honey and a twist of
salty liquorice. There’s the suggestion of toasted oak and intriguing notes of orchard
fruits, black pepper and sweet aniseed linger, in a satisfyingly long finish.
In a word (or three) we call it ‘smoky peppered praline’.
