Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye Whiskey One Liter 90 ProofCrown Royal, dating back to 1939, has just released its first-ever blended rye whisky. That's because Canadian whisky, in general, is often called "rye" as almost all the brands made by our neighbors to the north contain a small amount of the grain. This new offering is a 90 percent rye whisky, bottled at 90 proof. The grain in this whisky is said to be planted in the fall, sprouting until its covered by a blanket of soft winter snow. Once this snow melts, the rye completes its growth, maturing over the spring and summer.Crown Royal belies that notion with its Northern Harvest Rye, a blend crafted with a whopping 90 percent rye whisky component. Yvonne Briese, vice president of marketing at the parent company Diageo North American Whisky, says the release is a nod to the importance of rye in its standard Crown Royal Deluxe blend. She adds that the rye category shows growth opportunity with the continuing interest in pre-Prohibition cocktails.
