Chicken Cock Rye Whiskey
Distilled, aged, and bottled in Kentucky, Chicken Cock
Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey has a rich caramel color with a hue of dark
orange. A nose with pepper, a hint of cinnamon, grassiness, and sweet oak
lactones. A taste which offers a tremendous complexity of spices, vanilla,
butterscotch, pepper with a hint of dryness and slight overtones of citrus and
oak.
Very long, slow peppery finish with a hint of sweet honey
and a wonderful buttery mouthfeel. The whiskey is bottled in a prohibition-era
replica of the original Chicken Cock bottle, non-chill filtered, 95% rye.
While Chicken Cock may have taken a sabbatical, James A.
Miller’s Chicken Cock legacy was never forgotten. Grain & Barrel Spirits
has revived this historic brand and has given new life to The Famous Old Brand
while maintaining the quality and legitimacy of the product.
The first Chicken Cock Kentucky Straight Rye in over 70
years is now available for purchase.
The Chicken Cock brand goes all the way back
to 1856 in Paris, Kentucky. It was a fairly successful Bourbon
in its day, but things REALLY took off during Prohibition when the owners moved
production to Canada and took the innovative step of packaging their hooch in
tin cans to hide it from Johnny Law. In the 1950’s the Chicken Cock Distillery
burned down, but liquor wonder-kind and serial entrepreneur Matti Anttila of
Grain & Spirits bought the brand in 2012 and released their revitalized
line of Whiskey in 2017.
